Apr 13, Colombo: A truck suspected of illegally transporting fuel to Tamil Tiger rebels was apprehended this afternoon by the Toaddaveli Police in Mannar District, while crossing a security check point about 5 miles northwest of Mannar, along the Talaimannar main road.

The truck registered in Jaffna was carrying a total of 7,900 litres of diesel and petrol in thirty eight barrels when it was seized by the Police.

According to the Toaddaveli Police officials the lorry was seized after failing to prove valid route permits. The lorry driver and the assistant, both residents of Jaffna were arrested immediately on suspicion of transporting fuel to the LTTE. Both produced conflicting information when interrogated, the Police sources said.

Mannar Police are continuing further investigations.

Meanwhile the defense officials said the Omanthai Entry/Exit point in Vavuniya was re-opened today briefly to facilitate civilian and goods movement.

Omanthai Entry/ Exit point was closed following last Tuesday’s mortar attack by the Tigers.
