New Year gifts for 125 families in Kebithigollewa area

ANURADHAPURA: On the special direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government yesterday took steps to present a New Year gift of Rs. 25,000.00 to each of the 125 families who are constructing houses in Gonameriyawa in the Kebithigollewa area.

This follows the pledge made by Presidential Senior Advisor on International Affairs Basil Rajapaksa, when he visited the Gonameriyawa area, in the company of a team of Government Representatives on April 06 to survey the resettlement situation there. Fulfilment of the promise before a lapse of one week is the speciality in this gesture. In addition to the Rs. 25,000 gift to Gonameriyawa residents, the families of Yakawewa village too, received a New Year gift of household goods worth Rs. 2000 on this occasion.

The Presidential Senior Advisor was accompanied by Disaster Relief Services Minister Abdul Rishard Badiudeen, Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karalliyadda, Nation Building Minister S. M. Chandrasena and President’s Secretary Officer Kithsiri Abeygunawardena on this occasion.
