Delft Island gets electricity

Sri Lanka navy and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) responding to the request made by the people living in the Delft Island yesterday (Sunday the 8th of April) took steps to provide electricity to the Island.

Sri Lanka Navy Ship Rangaja transported 250KV electric generator to the Island enabling the CEB to provide uninterrupted electricity to over 1800 families living in the islet. Reverend Father Arunaseelan received the generator on behalf of the Delft Island People and thanked the naval and CEB officials for their genuine effort to bring back "light' in to the isolated islet.

Delft is an islet situated in the northern Sri Lankan waters, in the west of the Jaffna peninsula. Sri Lanka Navy successfully defended the Delft people against the LTTE terrorism that raised its ugly head in the later part of the year 2005 and brought back normalcy to the islet. Presently, inhabitants of the small islet consider them to be the safest form the LTTE and enjoy peaceful and terror-free lives.
