Omanthai Entry/Exit point comes under terror mortar fire

The LTTE terrorists aiming at the closure of Omanthai entry/exit point in Vavuniya launched mortar fire at the security forces manning the Omanthai roadblock this morning (Tuesday the 10th of April). A soldier has been killed and three others were injured when the heavy mortar shells showered the area since 7:45 a.m. The injured have been rushed to the General hospital Vavuniya.

Meanwhile, the defence sources said that the LTTE has been engaged in sporadic mortar attacks targeting the Omanthai entry/exit point since yesterday. The aim of the LTTE in these attacks is to compel the security forces to close down the entry/exit point so that the people living in the un-liberated areas in Wanni will be facing severe shortage commodities in the upcoming festive season. The LTTE is said to have ordered the civilians to refrain form going into the government controlled areas for any reason.

However, many civilians have already entered into the government controlled areas in Mannar due to the LTTE atrocities. The civilians have complained on forced labour, child conscription and increase of human rights violations in the area.
