Three LTTE cadres killed; a suicide belt recovered- Vavuniya, Batticaloa

SL security forces gunned down an LTTE suicide bomber during a confrontation with the LTTE terrorists at Pandarikulam in Vavuniya this morning (8th).

Army and Police troops conducting a combined foot patrol along Pandarikulam -Konikal road came under an attack near the Madasami Hindu temple around 10.10a.m. The troops overwhelmed the terrorist attack killing one LTTE cadre and chasing away the others. The troops suffered no casualties in the attack

During the subsequent search troops found an armed suicide belt, a T-56 riffle, a micro pistol and a hand grenade along with the dead LTTE cadre. According to the defense sources the LTTE leadership has ordered his cadres to wear suicide belts instead of cyanide capsules when launching attacks at the security forces.

The sources further said that the LTTE leadership has come to this decision to show his despair over the outfit on its string of defeats at the hands of the security forces.

Separately in Batticaloa, Security forces found two bodies of the LTTE cadres along with their military gear in the Angodavilluwa area last evening (7th). The bodies were found during a search operation carried out immediately after a confrontation with the LTTE terrorists. In addition to the bodies the troops also found one T-56 riffle with magazines, five hand grenade, one binocular, two radio sets, five military maps, one CDMA phone and an LTTE Identity card. No security forces' members injured in the attack.
