SL Naval troops while conducting a search and clearing operation in the 'Soleton lagoon' at Kumburupiddi, 13 miles northwest of Trincomalee, arrested five LTTE terrorists attempting to flee from the area on Wednesday the 09th of May, at 07.00p.m.
Some of the arrested are believed to be senior LTTE terrorists who had led offensives against the civilians and military installations, before the area was liberated by the SL security forces last year.
Naval officials said that further search operations are 'on' to recover a hoard of weapons that the arrested terrorists said were hidden, while fleeing towards the un-liberated patches in the north.
