Jamaican Health Ministry Secretary here today

COLOMBO: Jamaican Health Ministry Permanent Secretary and Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association President in UK Dr. Grace Allen Yong will visit Sri Lanka today. Dr. Yong will be the chief guest at the annual session of the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka to be held on May 27.

She will be accompanied by CPA Secretary John Bell, Carolyn Bell and Betty Falconbridge to participate in a workshop on Pharmacists’ Role in the Prevention and Management of HIV/AIDS and TB sponsored by the Commonwealth Foundation UK and the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka.

She has served the Ministry of Health in Jamaica as Health Policy Manager, Drug Regulator, Director of Standards and Regulations and Director of Pharmaceutical Services since 1991.

She has been responsible for implementing new regulatory standards for nursing homes, upgrading of pharmacy education to Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree and the implementation of the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme.

She was a member of the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica where she introduced Drug and Therapeutic Committees.

She will be sharing her expertise and experience with the Sri Lankan counterparts and expects to meet the Health Ministry Secretary and the Health Services Director General during her stay in Sri Lanka.
