Army troops conducting a search operation in the Kinniyadi area, in Batticaloa gunned down an LTTE cadre around 9:45 this morning (31).
Defence sources said that the soldiers on the search patrol came under fire at Mancholai village in Kinniyadi . The soldiers repulsed the attack successfully and found a body of a slain LTTE cadre along with a T-56 assault riffle.
It is now suspected that the dead LTTE cadre might be a member of the LTTE intelligence wing. Defence officials said that the suspicion was based on a document found with the LTTE cadre. However, they refused to make further comments on the finding.
