Sri Lanka's general public asked to be vigilant

May 29, Colombo: The Sri Lankan security forces yesterday urged the general public to be vigilant amidst intensified LTTE terror attacks against civilians and military personnel.

“Security forces note that the LTTE is increasingly resorting to terror attacks in heavily populated areas in Colombo and suburbs,” the Media Center for National Security said.

Following yesterday’s bomb blast at Ratmalana, the Media Center said, “These attacks are deliberately carried out by the LTTE to create racial disharmony and civil unrest in the south. Their ultimate aim is to divert the attention of the security forces from operational areas.”

It also said, “The general public is requested to maintain constant vigil over their surroundings and on suspicious persons in order to help the security forces prevent terror attacks in the country. The general public is requested to immediately notify relevant security authorities if they observe any disruptive elements, suspicious person or activity.”
