Jordanian cargo vessel 'looted off' by LTTE terrorists

According to a BBC News report on 01st May, 2007 owners of the 'Farah III', Jordanian cargo vessel, forcefully 'run aground' by the LTTE terrorists on 24th December, last year was quoted saying the vessel was completely looted from 'stem to stern' and in bare 'unusable status'.

The news report quoted the Chairman of the ship's owner, Salam International Trading Company saying that, "Everything from lights to generators and its cargo of rise has been looted."

The LTTE terrorists pirated the cargo vessel which according to the ship's company, experienced technical difficulties and was caused to drift towards the shallow waters off Mullattivu, a terrorist stronghold.

Packs of LTTE motor boats had surrounded the vessel and had constrained her from re-entering 'navigable waters'. Numbers of armed terrorists had boarded the vessel and threatened to exile the crew, if refused to obey their orders.

Sayed Sulaiman, the Chairman of the ship's owner, Salam International Trading Company has said "I don't know anyone else to blame except the Tamil Tigers for this incident."

Mr Sulaiman said: "We hear from the parties who are concerned with the ship, the insurance company etc, that... everything that could be taken - like the rice, lights, generators - has been taken from the ship. The ship is now bare."

He said attempts to secure safe passage for the insurance company and surveyors to visit the vessel had failed.

The Jordanian ship carrying 14,000 tons of rice from Andra Pradesh , India to South Africa was troubled by a mechanical failure in rough seas off Mulaitivu, before been pirated by the LTTE terrorists. `Meantime, the Tamil Nadu Police Commissioner D.G.P. Mukherjee said six LTTE cadres arrested on April 11, have admitted the Sri Lankan terrorist group had killed five fishermen and 12 more Indian fishermen had been abducted by them and held in their custody.
