HSBC's global headquarters in London has become the most expensive workplace in Britain after the banking giant sealed a record-breaking property deal worth 1.09 billion pounds, or $2.4 billion (Canadian).
HSBC said yesterday it will sell the 45-storey skyscraper, towering over Canary Wharf in the east of the British capital, to Spanish property group Metrovacesa, which will allow HSBC to remain in the building on a 998-year lease.
The office block, some 210 metres high and containing 102,000 square metres of office space, has sold for more than double its original cost.
