NEW DELHI: India has stepped up surveillance and security in its southern coastal areas following recent air strikes by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a news report said on Tuesday.
More radar equipment is being installed in the region to monitor aircraft, the Press Trust of India news agency quoted Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony as saying.
"We will not allow the Tigers to function in Tamil Nadu. The Indian soil will not be allowed to be used as a base by any terrorist organisation," Antony was quoted as saying.
The Tigers use fishing boats from India to smuggle in arms and explosives. India has banned the Tigers as a terrorist organisation.
