Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama presented letters of appointment to the new Board of Management of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKHRSS) on Friday, May 4 2007.The New Board of Management comprises Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, Mr. Chandra Fernando, Dr. Upananda Vidanapathirana, Mr. D. S. Wijesinghe PC, Mrs. Suganthie Kadirgamar, Mr. C. A. N. Perera and Mr. Ashroff Omar. Speaking on the occasion Foreign Minister Bogollagama said as a key arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies should focus on spheres of national interest whilst forming a resource base and critical think-tank in the country.
He emphasised the need for connectivity in strategic thought and decision making.Outlining key areas of study the Institute should focus on the Minister said Counter Terrorism, Maritime Security, International Convention Monitoring as wail as Strategic Diplomacy and Economic Diplomacy were crucial,Present on the occasion was Mr. C. P. Casie Chetty, Executive Director of the Institute and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
