Tigers blast a civilian bus in Sri Lanka, 16 dead

Apr 02, Colombo: Suspected Tamil Tigers blasted a civilian bus today, on Poya Day killing 15 civilians, including three children and a Sri Lankan soldier in Amapra in Eastern Sri Lanka.

Hospital sources confirmed that three children were among the dead. The blast injured another 25 people including two soldiers.

The death toll is expected to rise in the explosion occurred at Konduwatuawana, northwest of Ampara, on a civilian transportation bus bound for Bibile, Badulla from Ampara..

According to military officials at Ampara the bomb is believed to be laden inside the bus, on a baggage rack. Military officials are conducting investigations at the site of the explosion.

Yesterday Tamil Tigers killed 6 Sinhalese civilian construction workers at a construction site in Batticaloa. In January 2007, a suspected LTTE bomb blast in a bus killed 15 and injured 40 civilians at Kahawa- Ambalangoda. An earlier explosion of a bus by the Tigers in June 2006 killed 64 people including 15 children.
