Saudi to build a model city in Sri Lanka

Apr 03, Colombo: The Saudi Arabian Government has agreed to construct a fully equipped model city in the name of King Abdulla in Akkaraipaththu for the tsunami affected people in the Ampara district.

"King Abdullah Model City" which is to be built in a 60-acre government-owned land will comprise 500 houses, two mosques, 30 feet inner road, a hospital, a school, a community welfare centre and 30 shops.

Housing and Common Amenities Minister Mrs. Fariel Ashroff made a request in this regard from the Saudi government when she visited that country recently.
