An armed gang of LTTE cadres had broken into the Saddam Husain Muslim village in Eravu and marauded civilian houses on Saturday (7th) night, civilian sources said. The terrorists had robbed over Rs. 300,000 worth of gold jewelry from two houses at gunpoint, the sources added.
Police sources said that the terrorists have damaged an Electrical transformer of Ceylon Electrical Board when fleeing after the robbery .It is reliably understood that the terrorists have intensified the their spree of violence to exploit the emotional impact of the people that it would have in the festive season. The Sinhalese and Tamil New Year that falls on the 14th of this month is celebrated by both Sinhalese and Tamils as the main festival in the year
