Apr 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Export Development and International Trade, Professor G.L. Peiris, said that talks are in progress with Nepal to prepare a free trade agreement similar to the FTAs signed with India and Pakistan.
The Minister revealed this yesterday delivering the key note address as the chief guest at the ‘International Conference on Trade in Services in South Asia’ which is being held in Colombo currently.
The conference themed ‘Opportunities and Risks in Liberalisation’ was organized by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and the Freidrich –Ebert –Stiftung (FES). Professor Peiris further said that Sri Lanka is now planning to expand the FTAs with India and Pakistan to the level of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA). CEPA is expected to address trade on services.
